At the University of Chicago Medicine, we understand an important part of a patient's hospital stay is the quality and variety of meals. That's why we offer a room service restaurant-style menu for our patients. Our room service program allows patients to order meals when they want to eat from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. daily. The menu was created with patient insights to create an innovative, engaging dining experience with high quality, fresh and healthy ingredients.
Upon admission, the admitting nurse will meet with the patient to review their diet order, the room service menu and ordering process. Patients order their meals through the hospital phone system by dialing extension 4-3000.
All meals are prepared fresh when ordered. Patients can select meals from a wide array of options based on their diet order. This includes freshly made omelets, deli sandwiches, homestyle entrees and grilled items. Kosher, gluten-free and vegetarian items are available.
Patients can order meals any time between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., and can expect delivery within 45 to 60 minutes. After hours, boxed lunches and snacks are available.
Menu specialists work with patients/family/nurses to make sure selections comply with dietary requirements. All food requests are checked against physician's orders to assure the food is appropriate for the patient.
Food services staff can assist patients who need help ordering meals. Patients who cannot or do not want to order room service will receive meals at predetermined times. A patient’s family may order for their family member from home by contacting room service at 773-834-3000.
