We provide access to state-of-the-art imaging techniques for diagnosing and treating liver diseases, including MR elastography (MRE), high-intensity focused ultrasound guided by magnetic resonance (MR-HIFU), and sophisticated radiation therapy imaging and delivery techniques.

Our program was the first in the nation to perform a living donor liver transplant, and we continue to be a leader in living donation for both children and adults. Meet the Leaders of the UChicago Medicine Transplantation Institute
The University of Chicago Medicine recently appointed John Fung, MD, PHD, and Michael Charlton, MBBS, FRCP, as co-directors to lead the Transplantation Institute. The institute is committed to advancing programs in solid organ transplantation, such as the liver transplant program.
John Fung, MD, PHD is a highly esteemed transplant surgeon with over 30 years of experience in liver, kidney, pancreas, islet and intestinal transplantation. He has spearheaded the use of new minimally invasive surgical transplant techniques, and is an accomplished immunologist who has introduced procedures to improve donor organ preservation.
Michael Charlton, MBBS, FRCP is an internationally renowned specialist in liver diseases and transplant medicine. He has particular expertise in the diagnosis and management of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease as well as viral hepatitis treatment.
Dr. Fung and Dr. Charlton are consistently recognized on the "America's Top Doctors" and "Best Doctors in America" lists.
