Patient-Centered Ovarian Cancer Care
We are committed to patient-centered care based on clear and open communication with patients, their families and their physicians. We pledge to listen, guide and treat you with respect and compassion. Each patient’s individualized treatment plan is designed and delivered by an integrated, team of specialists led by expert gynecologic oncologists.
We provide high-quality treatment for ovarian cancer patients through innovation, collaboration and leading-edge medicine. Your care will involve the newest treatment options, including surgery and access to therapies that may not be available at other hospitals, as we are one of the largest and most active ovarian cancer research programs in the country. Our physician-scientists are actively investigating the causes of ovarian cancer and are developing better ways to detect and fight the disease.
Our ovarian cancer specialists are members of the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of only two National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in Illinois. Here, teams of physicians and scientists work across disciplines to discover new methods for detecting and treating cancer through laboratory studies, clinical trials, prevention research and survivorship studies.
We are also accredited by the American College of Cancer Surgeons' Commission on Cancer, a designation that recognizes our cancer program's commitment to providing high-quality, multidisciplinary patient-centered cancer care.
Patients undergoing surgery or treatment for ovarian cancer are cared for in the Center for Care and Discovery, a state-of-the-art hospital designed with many thoughtful amenities for patients, families and visitors. Patient rooms are spacious enough to accommodate family members for extended stays. Features include foldout sofas, flat screen TVs, and beautiful views of the Chicago skyline, Lake Michigan and the University of Chicago campus. Helpful amenities include assistance finding a hotel nearby for visitors and delivery of medications before discharge from the hospital.
Convenient Outpatient Care

The Gynecologic Cancer Prevention Clinic is designed for women who may have a greater risk of developing gynecologic cancer because of an inherited mutation, their personal or family history. Screening, genetic testing, counseling and a wide range of helpful resources are available for those at risk for hereditary cancers. The clinic is very experienced with BRCA (a gene linked to breast and ovarian cancer) and Lynch syndrome (associated with an increased risk of several cancers, including ovarian). Clinical investigators and our genetic counselors are also constantly assessing new genetic mutations that may put women at risk. Working together with the gynecologic oncology team, our cancer risk and prevention specialists create a comprehensive surveillance and treatment plan that is adapted to your current life circumstances.
As a leading center for advanced cancer care, the University of Chicago Medicine welcomes patients from throughout the region, country and around the world.
