Associate Professor of Pediatrics
Associate Professor of Medicine

[MUSIC PLAYING] I'm Siri Atma, and I'm a pediatric endocrinologist, which means I'm a pediatrician. But I did specialty training in endocrinology, which includes diabetes, thyroid disease, growth or pubertal disorders, adrenal disorders, that kind of thing. My father was a physician. . And his father was a physician. And his father was a physician. So in some ways, it was almost mandatory. But my brother is also a physician. My dad actually has diabetes himself. And so that was a big part of my decision to become an endocrinologist and diabetes specialist.

My philosophy of care is that I really like to work with the patient or family together to come up with a plan. I'm not the type of physician who is just going to tell you what I think you should do. But rather, the truth is in medicine, that there are almost always options as to how we might approach either the diagnostic workup or even the treatment. And so knowing that there are options, I like to present those options to the patient and to the family, so that we can discuss the potential benefits or risks of the different options.

And we might even proceed with one option and then switch to the other. But I really, really like to involve the patient and family in that decision making process.

A pediatric endocrinologist, Siri Atma White Greeley, MD, PhD, sees children with all types of endocrine disorders or concerns, specializing in the treatment of infants, children, and teens with all types of diabetes. He is a member of the multidisciplinary patient care and research team in the University of Chicago Kovler Diabetes Center.

Through basic and clinical research, Dr. Greeley hopes to shed light on the full spectrum of childhood diabetes. His research focuses on how best to classify the diabetes type of each individual patient. Dr. Greeley is particularly interested in monogenic diabetes which is caused by single gene mutations and is often unrecognized, even though this group of disorders may represent as much as 2-3 percent of all diabetes cases. Dr. Greeley recently designed and implemented the first national Web-based registry of patients with neonatal diabetes, who are more likely to have an underlying monogenic cause.

Why does this provider not have a star rating?

Our goal is to provide our patients and visitors with correct and useful information. We only post provider satisfaction information from clinic surveys when they are returned from patients.

This provider has not had surveys returned that meet the necessary sample size

About Our Star Ratings and Comments:

Randomly selected patients are sent patient satisfaction surveys after their visits. We get thousands of survey responses each year. The responses are used to improve patient experience and recognize staff members for the care they provide. Patient survey responses are also used to make star ratings for each provider.

For the star ratings and comments, all feedback on the provider web page is posted as it was given from patients. Comments that do not apply, risk patient privacy, or are not appropriate are not posted. Star ratings and comments come from a number of survey questions. A star rating is not given if a provider only has a small number of survey responses.
