Learn More About Your Care Team

Coordinating Your Care

Our dedicated fetal and neonatal care coordinator serves as your liaison to the physician specialists on your care team. The nurse coordinator dutifully coordinates many aspects of care for all of our patients, including arranging appointments, managing medical records and ensuring that you understand your care plan.

At your first appointment, you'll have the option to meet with one of our licensed genetic counselors. Our specialists provide compassionate counseling for families who have concerns about their baby’s genetic disorder, birth defect or cognitive deficit. Counselors are skilled at explaining complex information and can help you assess the risk of your child’s condition. They can also help you decide on next steps and coordinate any follow-up care as needed.

Our dedicated physician assistants (PAs) and nurses are skilled in high-risk pregnancy care. As integral members of our care team, they support our maternal-fetal medicine physicians and provide fundamental patient education to expectant mothers and their families.

Our dedicated social workers specialize in supporting women who are navigating the most difficult pregnancy experiences and helping to address the complex challenges that many of our expectant mothers and their families face. Whether it’s making sure you can get to your medical appointments or helping you access community or government services, UChicago Medicine social workers are here to offer support, information and education to help make life a little easier.
