Fiscal 2024 Annual Community Benefit Report

UChicago Medicine provides an annual report of benefits and services we offer to improve health in the communities we serve.

As part of our commitment to advance health equity, the University of Chicago Medicine reported $715 million in community benefits in fiscal 2024. This includes $631.5 million through the University of Chicago Medical Center, $79.4 million through UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial, and $4.1 million through UChicago Medicine Crown Point in Northwest Indiana, which is reflected in the report for the first time. Since 2013, UChicago Medicine has reported more than $5.7 billion in community benefit investments.

This investment includes supporting patients who rely on Medicare or Medicaid or who were unable to pay for care. Financial assistance (charity care) provided through the University of Chicago Medical Center, UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial and UChicago Medicine Crown Point totaled $29.2 million. This financial assistance includes free and discounted services to help uninsured and underinsured patients afford the care they receive through UChicago Medicine.

Community benefit investments also include teaching and training tomorrow’s healthcare professionals, funding medical research and supporting community-based health and wellness initiatives.
