What is virtual urgent care?

UChicago Medicine provides on-demand virtual urgent care, ensuring you receive superior healthcare regardless of your location. Using your smartphone, tablet, or computer, you can access this telehealth service to reach healthcare providers via video, without leaving your home.

What can I expect?

When you connect to virtual urgent care, you will not be seeing your regular primary care provider; instead, our experienced telehealth physicians provide compassionate support via video for various non-emergency conditions such as:

  • Respiratory infections
  • Allergic reactions
  • Digestive issues
  • Skin concerns
  • Musculoskeletal complaints
  • Health maintenance
  • Post-discharge questions

How does it work?

  • Log into your patient chart at mychart.uchospitals.edu.
  • Click on the “Virtual Urgent Care” button in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.
  • Confirm your insurance and medical information on the following screens.
  • Enter the virtual video waiting room for a provider.

You may encounter a wait time between 5 - 40 minutes. Most wait times are 20 minutes or less. You can provide a call-back number in the virtual video waiting room if you would prefer to receive a call or text when your provider is ready.

Our virtual urgent care services are currently available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Online Second Opinions

Whether you are facing a complex health issue or difficult treatment decision, getting a second opinion can help you make an informed decision about your care. With our online second opinion service, you can receive a second opinion from UChicago Medicine experts without having to leave home.

E-Visits: Online, Same-Day Diagnosis and Treatment

Complete an online questionnaire (e-visit) through your MyChart account to get a same-day diagnosis and a treatment plan from UChicago Medicine clinicians for common conditions.

Within one business day after you submit your completed questionnaire, your responses will be reviewed, and one of our clinicians will communicate with you via the secure MyChart Med Advice Message service.
