[UPBEAT MUSIC] Hi, my name is Dr. Jamie Horn. I'm an obstetrician and gynecologist and the Medical Director of Labor and Delivery at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital. Welcome to our video tour of our Family Birth Center, located on 1 Ingalls Drive in Harvey, Illinois.
Ingalls Memorial Hospital has been a trusted part of this community for over 100 years. Through our partnership with UChicago Medicine, we're proud to bring best-in-class maternity care close to home so every family feels supported and cared for. We also work closely with local, federally qualified health centers to make receiving prenatal care near you more accessible.
When the time comes for you to deliver, we continue that care here at the Family Birth Center at Ingalls Memorial Hospital so there's no disruption in your care. Here's what you can expect at our Family Birth Center. Six private birthing suites designed for your comfort and safety, two operating rooms for cesarean births, 12 home-like postpartum suites ready to help you welcome your little one, three triage beds for evaluation and monitoring of early labor, and a special care nursery for babies who might need additional support.
When it's time to arrive, enter through the main hospital entrance between the professional office building and the Cancer Care Center. There is an easy drop-off area at this entrance, along with convenient parking for expectant parents. We offer free parking in all hospital lots and complimentary valet parking. Our labor and delivery unit is located on the third floor.
Each birthing suite is designed with your comfort in mind, with soft lighting, a private bathroom, a TV, a sleeper sofa for your support person, and more. During labor, we offer support tools like a peanut ball, exercise ball, and access to showers to help with movement and comfort. Our nurses are trained in labor support and comfort techniques to help you feel empowered through your experience.
If you prefer medical pain management, our anesthesiology team offers IV medications and epidurals 24/7. We support a full range of delivery options, including vaginal births, cesarean sections, scheduled inductions, and VBACs, or Vaginal Birth After Cesarean. You can have up to three support people with you during labor and delivery.
After birth, once you move to your private postpartum room, up to four visitors can join you to meet your baby and support your recovery. After a vaginal delivery, most patients stay for one or two days. And after a cesarean, the typical stay is three days.
During your time with us, our team, including obstetricians, nurses, anesthesiologists, and neonatologists, work together to provide safe, personalized care for you and your baby. We're here to support you every step of the way before you arrive and after you go home.
Hello, I'm Shanice Williams, Obstetrics Program Manager and Section Administrator at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial. We don't just support births. We support the entire pregnancy experience. Our goal is to help parents and babies feel prepared, confident, and cared for through education, resources, and wraparound services.
We also offer a maternal mental health series, where participants receive a journal and tools to support them throughout their parenthood journey. Our staff connects you and your baby to ongoing care, such as choosing a pediatrician or primary care provider. We can even schedule appointments for you and your baby before your discharge.
One of the most important programs is the Healthy Baby Network. It's a community-based prenatal care and outreach program that connects families with coordinated medical, educational, and social services so you and your baby can thrive. When you enroll, you'll meet one on one with me, the community coordinator. I can help assess your clinical and social needs, schedule prenatal visits, and connect you with resources like transportation, baby supplies, and enrolling in Medicaid. or WIC.
Our goal is to support you, answer questions, and make sure you feel ready for what's ahead. Our Family Birth Center has been honored by the Illinois Perinatal Quality Collaborative with the Birth Equity Award and the Equitable Safe Sleep Initiative Award. We're proud of that recognition and even more proud to support families in our community every day.
At the Family Birth Center at Ingalls Memorial Hospital, we bring the strength of UChicago Medicine and the heart of a community hospital to every birth.
Whether you're just starting prenatal care or getting ready for delivery, we're here to support you every step of the way, from pregnancy through postpartum and beyond.
