Prenatal Classes in the Southland
As you await the arrival of your newest family member, a childbirth class is a great way to prepare for labor, birth and infant care.
At the University of Chicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial, our highly trained nurses offer a full array of classes designed to help you and your loved ones prepare to welcome the newest addition to your family.
Our Classes
Join us on a journey to successful breastfeeding! In this class, we'll cover everything you need to know to make breastfeeding a positive experience, including:
- Latch techniques
- Feeding positions
- The first few days with your baby
- Healthy eating habits
- Postpartum support
Each participant will received a free baby bag filled with breastfeeding support items upon completion of the class set.

Understanding birth just got better with the most current evidence-based information. Learn about the labor process and what you can expect during childbirth. We cover a wide range of topics, including:
- Epidurals
- Birthing balls
- Breathing techniques
- Massage
- Labor and pushing positions
- And much more
Additionally, we provide information on labor support doulas and showcase inspiring birth stories.
Couples are asked to bring two pillows and a sheet or blanket from home, and to wear comfortable clothing suitable for sitting on the floor.

Expectant parents are invited to tour the maternity suites at the University of Chicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial and see the advantages of delivering their baby in a beautiful, state-of-the-art room offering the optimum in comfort and technology. Labor, delivery, recovery, and post partum care all occur in the same room, allowing new parents to fully enjoy those first cherished moments with their new baby.
The tour includes:
- UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial admission procedures, including pre-admission forms
- Practical information that will answer any remaining questions you may have regarding your stay
- Information regarding pediatricians and doulas

Learning about newborn care before you have your baby can make a big difference in how easily you adjust during those first few months. This class includes far more information than what well-meaning family and friends are able to give.
Learn to care for your new baby with confidence in this two session course, which includes:
- Information on infant nutrition
- Normal newborn characteristics and development
- How to bathe and diaper your baby
- When to seek medical attention for a sick child
- Parenting information
- Informative films and a take home book to supplement learning.
