Reproductive Services through the University of Chicago Medicine

We write concerning the ruling today by the U.S. Supreme Court in Dobbs v. Jackson, which holds that abortion is not a right protected by the United States Constitution. This ruling raises questions about access to abortion nationwide, and we want to clarify how the University of Chicago will address abortion from a medical perspective.

The University of Chicago, through our dedicated physicians, nurses, and medical staff at the University of Chicago Medicine (UCM), remains committed to providing a full spectrum of safe reproductive healthcare. In Illinois, where abortion remains legal, we will continue to provide contraception/family planning, fertility treatment, care for general and high-risk pregnancies, abortion, and miscarriage management.

We recognize the responsibility and the essential role that UCM has for the community and for patients needing high-quality care. UCM has a lengthy record of providing high-quality, evidence-based reproductive healthcare and a strong reputation of training the brightest future physicians to offer these clinical services to patients. Our health system will continue this commitment.
