The University of Chicago's Pritzker School was ranked 12 and the graduate programs in the biological sciences were ranked 13th in the United States in U.S.News & World Report's annual "Best Graduate Schools" issue, out this month.
The medical school has risen from 22nd in 2004 to 12th in 2011, making it one of the fastest rising programs of any top-50 school. Pritzker ranked third in the country on research funding per faculty member, with average annual NIH grant support per researcher of $344,600, behind only Stanford and Yale.
The medical school has also dramatically increased its ability to attract the best students. Since 2004, the medical school's student selectivity has improved from 41st in the United States to fifth.
Medical school ranks are based on a weighted average of research activity; student selectivity admission statistics (MCAT, GPA, and acceptance rate) and faculty-to-student ratio.
No other Illinois program scored as well in medical education or biological sciences.
