Adult Travel Clinic Services
The University of Chicago Medicine Travel Clinic helps prepare you for safe, healthy international travel. Our expert staff offer complete travel care, ranging from consultation, immunizations, and preventative medicine to post-travel care in the event of an illness.
Consultations
At least 2 weeks before your clinic appointment, complete the pre-travel form and upload into MyChart or bring a printed copy. Receiving this form in advance will help make sure your visit is not delayed.
During your appointment, our travel nurse or doctor will discuss the details of your trip, your medical history, and your current health status. With the use of a travel disease database, the clinician will advise you of the required and/or recommended immunizations. Most of our patients can receive immunizations or prescriptions for preventive medicine during their initial visit.
Our staff will provide expert medical care and share travel health guidelines, including food, water, and insect precautions. You will also be advised of particular health risks and disease outbreaks for the region where you are traveling. After your consultation, you’ll receive written details about your destination and vaccinations you received.
Immunizations and Vaccines
Immunizations can be expensive. At the University of Chicago Medicine Travel Clinic, we try to keep our prices competitive.

- Hepatitis B vaccine (3-shot series)
- Hepatitis A/B combo (3-shot series)

- Varicella vaccine
- Vaccine administration fee
Prices are subject to change.
Routine Immunizations
If a traveler is not up to date with routine immunizations, we may recommend getting them updated. The most commonly advised vaccines include measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR), as well as diphtheria and tetanus.
Consultation and Group Rates
When coming for immunizations, a pre-travel consultation fee also applies:
- Travel evaluation: $118
- Travel evaluation with prior evaluation on file: $68
- Group evaluation: $68 per person
You qualify for the group evaluation rate if you are traveling with another person and both are evaluated together--at the same time, in the same room. This is ideal for couples who do not mind sharing their health histories.
Students who have paid a health and wellness fee can receive discounted travel care at the Student Care Center.
Preventive Medicine
Preventive medications for diseases—such as malaria—and medications for common travel illnesses—such as traveler’s diarrhea—are also available at the clinic.
Post-Travel Care
In the event of an illness during or after your trip, we are available for post-travel diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. For example, we can perform blood tests to diagnose malaria and stool tests for parasites.
