Lower screening rates for breast cancer among Muslim women, are — in part — due to faith-based ways of coping with health and illness. Aasim Padela, MD, director of the Initiative on Islam and Medicine at UChicago Medicine worked to increase screenings by developing religious messages about health and delivering this information in mosques.
