Arthur Haney, MD, appointed chairman of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Chicago

Arthur F. Haney, M.D., a specialist in reproductive endocrinology, infertility and the prevention of adhesions following gynecologic surgery, has been appointed professor and chairman of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Chicago, effective April 14, 2003.
Haney, 56, comes to Chicago from Duke University where he was the Roy T. Parker Professor and director of the division of reproductive endocrinology and infertility in the department of obstetrics and gynecology.
"Arthur Haney is a nationally recognized scientist, a superb clinician and an experienced academic leader," said James Madara, M.D., Dean of the Pritzker School of Medicine and the Biological Sciences Division and Vice President for the Medical Center at the University of Chicago. "We are happy to bring him to the University and look forward to seeing him continue the distinguished work of this department."
The recipient of numerous honors, including a Distinguished Professor Award from Duke in 1986, Haney has served as president of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, as president of the Congress of the International Federation of Fertility Societies, and as a director of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has published more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has authored dozens of review articles and book chapters.
Haney received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1968 and his medical degree from the University of Arizona in 1972. Following residency and fellowship programs at Duke University, he joined the Duke faculty in 1976.
Haney succeeds Arthur Herbst, M.D., who recently retired after serving as chairman of obstetrics and gynecology since 1976.
