The University of Chicago Physicians at Matteson are moving to a new location to allow more patients access to medical services in the area, and to make room for more surgical specialty services.
"We've outgrown our space," said Sue Eaton, director of operations for the Department of Surgery. The new building has larger exam rooms and will allow more physicians to care for their patients in their own neighborhood.
Among the new offerings are general surgery and plastic surgery care. The ear, nose, and throat practice is expanding. And pediatric urology will be coming to the clinic in late summer.
Sports medicine services, pre- and post-surgery care for orthopedic and pediatric surgery, and services for pediatric digestive disorders are already available to children and adults at the practice.
The University of Chicago Physicians at Matteson give the large population in the south suburbs access to vital medical services without requiring a visit to the main Medical Center on the University of Chicago campus. "People in the communities prefer to stay closer to home for regular doctor's appointments," Eaton said. "The Matteson practice allows the doctors to come to their patients."
The University of Chicago has had physicians in Matteson for nearly 30 years, and this will be the fifth time it has moved to make room for more patients and physicians. It is now the largest of the University of Chicago's off-site surgery intake centers.
The University of Chicago Medical Center has a long-standing commitment to bringing physicians into this community. "Orthopedic surgery has been serving the south suburbs since the beginning," said Brian Toolan, MD, medical director for the University of Chicago Physicians at Matteson. "Many of the orthopedic doctors have practiced at the Matteson offices for their entire career at the University of Chicago."
Surgeries are still performed at the main medical center, but pre-surgery evaluations and post-surgery follow-ups can happen a lot closer to home for thousands of people. "All aspects of care except surgery can be provided at Matteson," Toolan said.
The old practice in Matteson received about 8,000 patient visits every year. In brand new offices across the street, physicians will be able to accommodate 14,000 patient visits.
The new physicians' offices are located at 4749 Lincoln Mall Drive, Suite 500, Matteson, IL 60443. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 708.748.2310.
