Rekha Vij, MD, specializes in pulmonary and critical care medicine. She has a particular interest in interstitial lung diseases (ILD) -- a condition in which the tissue between the air sacs in the lungs is affected by inflammation or scarring. Dr. Vij also cares for patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Dr. Vij's research focuses on a subset of interstitial lung diseases caused by autoimmune connective tissue disorders. Her goal is to identify genes associated with the autoimmune process, with the overall aim of developing new treatment options and increasing survival rates for patients with autoimmune ILD.

In addition, Dr. Vij is a committed educator and mentor, teaching medical students, residents and fellows about the clinic care and research opportunities for patients with pulmonary diseases, including interstitial lung diseases. She also is frequently invited to lecture at patient education series, providing information about pulmonary rehabilitation.
