Application Process
- If you do not yet work for UChicago Medicine: Explore our open positions on our careers page.
- You can use filters like “Job Category”, “Employment Type”, or “Location” to help you find the role that best matches your skills, experience, and career goals.
- If you currently work for UChicago Medicine: Access the employee portal to review current jobs or make a referral.
- Once you find an opportunity that seems right for you, prepare your materials.
- We recommend reviewing your resume to ensure it highlights your accomplishments and relevant skills and experience for the position you are applying for.
- Click the “Apply” button near the top right corner of the job posting.
- Submit your application through our online portal.
- After applying, expect an initial confirmation email acknowledging your application.
- We strive to keep you informed at each step of the process.
Recruitment Process
- If you are selected to move forward after your application, expect a 15-30 minute phone screen with the lead recruiter to evaluate your interest, qualifications, and fit for the position.
- Recruitment will send you a more formalized employee application to complete as you move forward in the interview process.
- Recruitment will also likely request additional documentation reflecting your highest level of completed education and any applicable licenses and certifications.
- We utilize an automated system called SkillSurvey to collect electronic references.
- We require 4 references in total (2 from a current or former next-level leader and 2 additional professional references such as peers, direct reports, partners, or clients.)
Interview Preparation
- Understand our clinical service lines, culture, mission, vision, and values.
- This knowledge will help you tailor your responses during the interview.
- Familiarize yourself with the responsibilities and requirements of the position you've applied for.
- We use behavioral interview techniques to understand your past experiences and how they relate to the job.
- Prepare examples of challenges you've faced, actions you've taken, and results achieved.
Interview Types
- You will have one-on-one interviews with potential team members or hiring managers.
- These interviews delve into your skills, experiences, and how you'd contribute to our company.
- Occasionally, interviewers will group up for your interviews to save you time and allow you to meet more of your potential team.
- We try to reserve more time for these interviews, so you are able to get to know everyone, answer all of their questions, and ask your own questions about the team and organization.
- Interviews can be conducted via Zoom or in-person, depending on the circumstances.
- Ensure your technology is ready for virtual interviews, and for in-person interviews, plan for travel accordingly.
What to Expect in Interviews
- Be ready for questions like, "Tell us about a time when you faced a challenge at work and how you overcame it."
- Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your responses.
- Expect questions tailored to the role you're applying for.
- These might include technical challenges, problem-solving scenarios, or patient care scenarios.
- Interviews are a two-way street.
- Ask questions about our company culture, team dynamics, and growth opportunities.
- This demonstrates your interest in joining our team.
Interview Tips
- Express professionalism and enthusiasm for the role and organization.
- Have your resume on hand for point of reference.
- Dress professionally.
- Be prepared with a notebook and pen to take notes if need be.
- Be prepared with 1-4 questions to ask during your interview.
- If you are interviewing in-person, arrive with plenty of time to find parking and meet your point of contact on-campus.
New Hire Process
- Congratulations on joining UChicago Medicine!
- You'll receive a formal offer letter outlining the terms of your employment.
- Before your start date, you'll receive onboarding materials from one of our onboarding specialists.
- These may include paperwork, training modules, and introductions to your team.
- On your first day, you will attend a full-day virtual orientation over Zoom where you will receive HR information and IT access.
- On your second day, you’ll connect with your manager, and they will introduce you to your team, show you around, and get you set up with the tools you need.
