The Adolescent Health Initiative (AHI) has awarded The University of Chicago’s Center for Interdisciplinary Inquiry and Innovation (Ci3) in Sexual and Reproductive Health with the 2019 Excellence in Adolescent Health Award. This award, presented at the 2019 Conference on Adolescent Health, recognizes individuals and organizations across the country who are doing exceptional work in the field of adolescent health.

Ci3 was chosen as this year’s recipient for its pioneering research and innovative approach in creating youth-centered games, digital narratives, and design interventions that address young people’s sexual and reproductive health. Their commitment to advancing adolescent health research and their interdisciplinary team of humanities scholars, public health researchers, designers and multimedia artists, is aligned with AHI’s goal to transform the health care landscape for adolescents and young adults. Their work goes above and beyond in demonstrating AHI’s core values of collaboration, diversity and inclusion, expertise, innovation, quality, and responsiveness.

“We’re honored to receive national recognition for our work improving access to high quality sexual and reproductive health care and education for young people,” said Melissa Gilliam, MD, MPH, founder and faculty director of Ci3. “Our research methods and creativity serve as a model for improving sexual health knowledge, education, and care for those who need it most.”

Ci3 will be honored at the 2019 Conference on Adolescent Health in Detroit, Michigan on Friday, April 12. This 6th annual conference brings together a multidisciplinary audience of adolescent health professionals for two days of innovative sessions that center on translating research into practice.
