UChicago Medicine to remain open during severe winter weather

CCD sign in winter

The National Weather Service is forecasting frigid temperatures the middle of this week, with dangerous wind chills. The University of Chicago Medicine is expected to operate normally all week. This includes all ambulatory clinics and surgical and procedural units.

Patients are encouraged to put their safety first. If you are concerned about getting to your appointment this week and need to reschedule, call your clinic’s main number as soon as possible. If you don’t have that number readily available, call the hospital’s main operator at 773-702-1000 or Ingalls Memorial at 708-333-2300. Any charges for last-minute cancellations due to the severe weather will be waived.

Patients and visitors to the hospital are being urged to plan ahead and take extra precautions before going outside. Blowing snow and snowdrifts could disrupt travel, while the predicted wind chills could lead to hypothermia or frostbite. If you go outside, please dress in layers and cover your head and face as much as possible. Also, the city of Chicago has set up warming centers to help residents during the winter months. To find the nearest warming center, call 3-1-1.
