Convocation weekend: Street closures, parking restrictions

On Friday, June 8, and Saturday, June 9, the University of Chicago will honor graduates with a variety of activities during Convocation Weekend. While this will not disrupt Medical Center operations, street closures will reduce parking around campus and garage parking on the medical campus will be affected.

Please pay close attention to the schedule below and in the attached map, as the street closures and parking details differ by the day

  • All parking structures on the medical campus will be available as usual for patients, visitors and employees.
  • Valet services for patients also will be available at the usual locations: Mitchell, DCAM, Comer and the Center for Care and Discovery (CCD).
  • However, street closures will restrict parking on:
    Ellis Avenue, University Avenue, 55th Street, 56th Street, 59th Street, Midway Plaisance-North, Dorchester Avenue, Blackstone Avenue
  • Street closures will continue to restrict parking on:
    Ellis Avenue, University Avenue, 55th Street, 56th Street, 59th Street, Midway Plaisance-North, Dorchester Avenue, Blackstone Avenue

  • ONLY Parking B (at 57th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue) will be available for Medical Center patients, visitors and employees.
  • Parking A (5840 S. Maryland Ave.) and Drexel/Campus South parking garage (at 61st Street and Drexel Avenue) arereserved for Convocation.
  • Valet services for patients will be available at DCAM from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
