International Opportunities at UChicago

There are a variety of opportunities to visit for study, training and research collaboration with faculty in the Biological Sciences Division and at the University of Chicago Medicine. CGH can advise UChicago Departments and Sections wishing to host qualifying visitors from foreign institutions.

A final-year medical student from another institution may participate in an elective clinical rotation through PSOM, not to exceed 30 days. Students from other countries are enrolled in the elective and are treated as any other PSOM or visiting domestic students. A person who is enrolled in a residency training program at another institution and who has the proper credentials may visit the Hospital for observation and training for a period of not more than 30 days. A person who holds a valid medical license in another state or country, who has the proper credentials may come to the Hospitals for observation and training. The VCOR will be present in the Hospitals for a period of more than 5 business days, less than 6 months. Someone who holds a valid medical license in another state or country, including a scientist, researcher, or another licensed individual may be present at UCM to teach and/or observe for a period of 9 business days or less. This is an opportunity for an MD or PhD who holds an academic appointment at their home institution. A Visiting Scholar comes to work on a pre-existing project, using UChicago facilities, generally for 6 months or less; however, visits can last up to one year. A postdoc at another institution may visit for up to 6 months, typically for the purpose of learning a technique or participating in an experiment. They will have access to UChicago facilities and networks. Someone with a faculty appointment at their home institution may visit UChicago to collaborate, learn techniques, use our libraries, or other research facilities, while on leave from their home institution for one year or less. EARS are here to receive the equivalent of postdoctoral training and receive a postdoc-like experience to initiate or advance their academic program at their home university, with which UChicago has an MOU. An EARS stay is typically more than 6 months and can be up to 2 years.
